General Description: Certified Organic, Permaculture, Forest Garden, 10 Acre Small Farm. Fields Without Fences forest garden in Frenchtown, NJ cultivates native fruits and small berries, specialty vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, and wild edibles within an innovative perennial design framework. Our certified organic small farm combines cultivation, ecological regeneration and habitat creation. Internship Starts: 1 May 2014

Number of Apprentices: 2
App Deadline: Applications submitted by March 5th, 2014 will be given priority.
Minimum Length of Stay: full season preferred
Meals: Apprentices are given a weekly produce share.
Skills Desired: Enthusiastic, flexible, open-minded individuals with a solid work ethic. A basic understanding of permaculture design principles. Beginners are welcome, experience is preferable.
Educational Opportunities: Fields Without Fences enters its second full time growing season with four acres planted in perennial crops and an additional five acres under development this season. Apprentices work directly with farmers and learn from the experiences of a developing commercial food forest system. Planting, harvesting, and maintenance tasks will comprise the farm day to day. Projects will include; pond expansion and establishment, tree planting, and light building projects. Apprentices will have the opportunity to visit other local farms throughout the growing season and learn about diverse local operations. Apprentices are admitted to all workshops, tours, and events at Fields Without Fences free of charge.
Stipend: $990/month with $500/month deducted in housing (utilities included). Commitment is 30 hrs. per week.
Housing: Shared housing in two bedroom apartment (individual bedrooms, shared kitchen/bath/living areas). Access to your own transportation is recommended.

Internship Details: There are two positions available. Apprentices are expected to work approximately 30 hours/week on the farm. Apprentices will gain experience in organic farming and permaculture design application, and increase knowledge of native and medicinal plant varieties.
